Colocation: security within a data center
ISO 27001 and NEN 7510
Ever since Smartdc was established, the security of the stored and processed information within the data center has had a leading role within its overall operational management. All measures taken so far in order to assure a safe and trustworthy storage and processing of data, led to the ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certification of both Smartdc data centers as of January 7th, 2019.
“With the effort of the whole Smartdc team we have passed certification with no non-compliances” says Michiel van der Donck, Security Officer at Smartdc.
The Rotterdam data center was already ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certified and is now compliant with the latest NEN 7510-1:2017 standards. Besides all required processes and descriptions within the information security management system, a lot of improvements have been made to the physical security systems this year. Managing Director of Smartdc, Richard Boogaard: “We have renovated the entire entrance of our Rotterdam data center in 2018. The renovation is not only a substantial esthetical and practical improvement, but also a tightening of our security. Besides the fact that our staff can directly observe everyone entering or leaving the data center, several innovative security measures have been implemented”.
The unmanned data center in Heerlen is now officially implemented in the Smartdc information security management system. Together with the physical security systems, the protection of the data is now guaranteed and acknowledged with the ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certification.
What is NEN 7510?
The NEN 7510 is a Dutch standard with regards to the security of medical information, specifically for the health care industry with a focus on patient data.
The assessments have been executed by the British Standards Institution (BSI), commissioned by Smartdc.
